The Chalet: Chalet La Ferme
We love our winter home and we know you will too! ’La Ferme’ is owned by our friends, The Volkers. The son Philip, renowned Vogue photographer, has skied and photographed the region and knows it like the back of his hand and is very much part of the team. Their charming Chalet is in the region of La Rosiere, right in the heart of the French Alps. Tucked away in the hamlet of Le Laix, this 150 year old chalet looks out over the valley with stunning views of Les Arcs, St. Foy and Bourg St. Maurice. Make yourself at home in this comfy chalet, unwind as you take in the uninterrupted views, relax in front of the roaring fire and enjoy the peace of no neighbours and unspoilt views in your very own mountain yoga retreat.

The Ski Area of La Rosiere and La Thuile: San Bernadino
At 1850m above sea level right in the heart of the Haute-Tarentaise, La Rosière is a picturesque resort with excellent runs, links and bustling village. Catering for all levels, it is the only resort in the Savoyard to offer an international ski area of over 150 km pisted runs. Schuss on over to La Thuile in Italy for a well earned lunch, an afternoon of heliskiing, some downhill slalom, Italian style or fresh powder untouched for days…a hidden gem.
The resorts of St Foy, Val D’Isere, Tignes and Les Arcs are also within an easy 40 minute drive of the chalet meaning there are infinite ski areas on offer during your stay. So whether you want to ski gently through quiet treelined runs, carve up clean lines in fresh powder or pack as many valleys as possible into your trip, the ski areas around Montperron have something for everyone.
A Typical Day at La Ferme
Morning Yoga: Prepare your day of snowboarding or skiing in La Rosiere with a dynamic yoga class to awaken the mind and bring heat to cold muscles. These sessions pay special attention to warming the body, stretching out the legs and building stamina for your turns and powder runs. The yoga class will be 1 hour, so we can get up to the slopes early too!
Evening Yoga: Then after your full day skiing or snowboarding, return to your mountain yoga retreat and unwind and relax tired bodies in the restorative evening yoga class. This gentler, slightly longer session will vary each evening and include pranayama and meditation to help mind and body really let go and allow you to enter a state of deep relaxation after a hard day’s exhiliration. Afterwards, pamper yourself with a massage, have a well deserved hot tub or simply enjoy a good glass of wine infront of the fire while we make you a hearty dinner.

Why combine Yoga with snowboarding/skiing?
With the adrenaline rush of riding through fresh powder combined with mountain air, sunshine and the chance to completely let go, it’s no wonder the addictiveness of skiing and snowbaording appeal to so many. The slow and thoughtful practice of yoga in contrast seems very far removed from the high-energy, fast paced action of the slopes. Yet their differences make them totally complimentary to each other.
Both skiing and snowboarding ask a lot from your body as cold muscles are called upon to perform a variety of tasks on the slopes, not to mention the high levels of concentration needed to stay upright, pick your path and avoid less controlled riders. The last thing you want to happen when you come on holiday is to injure yourself. Especially if the sun is shining and there’s a fresh blanket of snow. So by using your daily yoga practice to strengthen and improve your stamina and then stretch out tired muscles at the end of the day, you’re not only looking after your body but giving yourself a good chanceInstead of a hot toddy, try yoga after a day on the mountain.
