Morocco
How do we get there?
The yoga week runs from Friday to Friday and there are three great options of how to get there depending on how adventurous you are feeling & how much time you have to travel down to Africa.
Option 1: Fly with Thomas Cook to Agadir (which is an hour down the road from Taghazout). The flight takes a few hours with a stop over in Casablanca. The flight costs £244 and leaves London Heathrow at 18.10pm on Friday and arrives in Agadir at midnight. And then returning back to England, the flight leaves at 10.40am and arrives in Heathrow airport at 16.50pm. To see all the exact flight details click on this link & for booking it http://ww3.thomascook.com/flights/FlightResults.asp?PersistID=Q03;{465183D1-A932-47FC-AAB4-13C3B7999DEB};200802231356;14400 . We will arrange pick up from Agadir direct to the apartments and this is included in the holiday price.
Option 2: Fly with Easy Jet from London Gatwick to Marrakesh. With this route, it’s an early start but it means that you could combine it with a weekend at the end of the holiday exploring the colour chaos & bustling souks of Marrakesh. The flight leaves at 6.45am and arrives in Marrakesh at 9.25 local time; great for those early birds! It’s then a 4 hour taxi ride in a stylish old school Mercedes to the coast across sweeping desert plains & high atlas moutains. A very spectaculour journey. You could then choose your leaving date depending on whether you decide to stay on a couple of days to enjoy the wonders of Marrakesh. Again it would involve a taxi journey back to Marrakesh and then flights are every day at 10am from Marrakesh back to London Gatwick. To look at prices & options go to http://www.easyjet.com/en/book/step1.asp. Depending on when you fly back and how quickly you book the flights will depend on how expensive your flight is. But at the moment they are about £160 return. Grand taxis (big old Mercedeis 240’s) take 4-5 hours depending on traffic and cost between £50-£60. Alternatively a number of bus companies (CTM or Supratours recommended) run services to Agadir but you will need to get from Marrakech airport to the bus station. Around 25 min’s by taxi. The journey cost from Marrakech to Agadir is £5 one way, and takes 4-5 hrs.
Option 3: For the Greenies & those who want to enjoy a slow journey to the sunny shores of Morocco. Then why not think about catching a train (http://www.eurorailways.com/) all the way to Tarifa or Algerciras and hop on the ferry to Tangier. For ferrry prices and times look at http://www.directferries.co.uk/tarifa_tangier_ferry.htm. Then it’s a bit of a long journey down to Taghazout, but what better a way to see the country than out of the window of a bus or car? And if there is more than one of you, then you could even think about driving all the way from England. Slow travel is all about enjoying the journey time as much as the destination.
What sports are there and what are the packages/costs?
Hiring of boards & wetsuits is all included in the price, as is being driven to the best surf breaks with the experts on hand to teach you all you need to know.
Do I have to share a room with someone of the opposite sex if I come on my own?
If you come on your own, you will need to be prepared to share a room, unless you want to pay a single persons supplement. However you will not have to share with someone of the opposite sex, unless of course you want to!!!
What will the weather be like in June?
Perfect! With average daily temperatures being in the mid to late 20 C in June. So bring lots of suncream and the evenings will be lovely & mild. But as you are by the sea, it’s always advisable to have a a jumper or shawl packed. And the water is at it’s warmest duing the summer months, so 3/2 mm wetsuits or bikini & boardies. What better a way to surf than without thick wetsuits, booties & hoods?!
What is the surf like in Morocco?
From September to June Morocco has some phenomenal surf. The variety of surf in this area of Morocco is huge. There are not many places like it. The region has something for everyone, from ideal beginner waves to challenging reef ledges. Intermediates and those new to the sport should not be put off or worried. Due to the nature of the coastline there is almost always somewhere sheltered and manageable.
Hash point and Panoramas are great waves for those not looking for anything too challenging and they are right on our doorstep, to name just two. World class Anchor point for the experienced surfers is an 8 minute walk or a very quick drive in one of our jeeps. Those of you looking for something a bit more demanding won’t be disappointed, but do be aware that the waves are smaller at this time of year.
