Yoga and Ayurvedic yoga retreats: ‘knowledge’ (veda) and ‘life’ (ayur)
Also here at our Somerset yoga retreats we offer the chance to learn more about the Indian holistic system of health and wellbeing. What is Ayurveda? Although Ayurveda dates back 5000 years to the great sages of ancient India, it is still a relevant health system, offering us a “users Manual” for how to stay balanced and healthy. It’s holistic approach sees body, mind and soul as a single entity. Both yoga and Ayurveda were created to keep the body and mind strong, allowing people to focus on the really important job of finding their true purpose. Much of their advice is founded on common sense, and has much to teach us about finding balance in today’s busy world. The focus is on practical diet and lifestyle advice to help you feel full of life, and minimise physical illness and mental stress. Use both of these ancient sciences to discover your purpose, whilst staying in balance with your own nature and the changing world around you. The yoga studio
We started our well-being yoga weekends in this heavenly place and as we have evolved so has our yoga retreat venue. The next generation has officially moved in and with them they bring a breath of fresh air and new developments. The beautifully converted Coach house is now up and running, providing the most stunning new yoga studio for our yoga retreats. Light, airy and spacious there is room for a large group of yogis (up to 20 with lots of room) to stretch out and soak up the surrounding country atmosphere.
Tipi’s in the summer months
Along with the improvements in the yoga space, is the addition of Tipis, for a touch of glamping to our offering! But for those who know and love the venue, none of the rustic charm has been lost in these changes. In fact, quite the opposite is happening. It’s not a case of out with the old and in with the new, its keep the old and bring in the new too! The bedrooms still hold their original shabby chic soul and so does the house at large, as Susie, Martin and their soppy labs are still very much in residence.
The cottage
For some of the yoga weekends we will have the cottage available. This is a beautiful stable block that has been converted into cozy cottages by a resident architect, who also designed the houses and hotel on the Island of Tresco in the Scilly Isles. A short five minute walk from the yoga retreat, the cottage comprises of four double bedrooms, all with a bathroom each and one with an en-suite. There is a kitchen and living space to make teas and relax in the comforts the cottage brings.

Our fabulous yoga retreat is just a stone’s throw from Glastonbury in South Somerset. Take a step back in time when you join us here, whether it’s dining in the great hall or marveling at the 18th century family portraits on the walls, you will feel like you have had a taste of olde English aristocracy. The sweeping lawns, mature trees and surrounds of the gardens and countryside provide a welcome respite from busy modern day living.
